History

Muay Thai, also known as kickboxing, is a combat sport and martial arts system that utilises striking techniques along with a variety of clinching techniques. The art mainly focuses on standing aspects which is different to Brazilian Jiujitsu and grappling which focus on ground control techniques.

The art has been characterised by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, and shins and has been used as a system of self defence.

More recently Muay Thai and Kickboxing has contributed to the mixed martial arts scene in the development of stand up skills especially in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
